Some big names been unsigned late in NFL's odd offseason
NEW YORK (AP) — Offseason shopping is peaceful in full swing in the NFL.
Even with the area of the upcoming season uncertain because of the coronavirus pandemic, teams cease to tinker with their rosters by adding players they hope will help them win — whenever or if they actually play.
Virtual workouts are persons held all around the league, with some facilities twitch to reopen but still closed to coaches and players. General managers work the phones and chat with agents and unsigned players over video conference calls.
During the last few weeks, Joe Flacco (Jets), Carlos Hyde (Seahawks), Frank Gore (Jets), Ty Montgomery (Saints), D.J. Fluker (Ravens) and Prince Amukamara (Raiders) have fake new homes.
Other big names been unsigned and could end up filling most needs for someone. Here’s a look at some peaceful waiting to find the right fit — or, in some cases, for quarantine restrictions to be lifted so they can make in-person visits beforehand they or the teams make a decision:
CAM NEWTON, QB
The weak Panthers star missed all but two games last season because of a foot damage and was released in March after Carolina provided to find a trade partner. Newton is 31 and five ages removed from his NFL MVP season. He’s been posting workout videos on Instagram to show he’s now healthy. Where he eventually ends up — probable as a backup, at least at suited — remains an intriguing story line of the offseason.
JADEVEON CLOWNEY, DEFENSIVE END
Many believed Clowney would be snatched up like a flash by a team desperate for a pass-rushing presence. And for big-time bucks. Instead, the 2014 No. 1 overall prepare pick is still unsigned two months later and potentially looking at a one-year, prove-it deal. A bet on to Seattle isn’t out of the question.
LARRY WARFORD, GUARD
After manager the last three Pro Bowls, Warford was cut by New Orleans bet on this month; the Saints drafted Cesar Ruiz in the edifying round as his obvious successor at intellectual guard. New Orleans also saved $7 million on the salary cap by releasing Warford. He immediately formed the most enticing offensive lineman on the market, and will liable find a starting spot.
EVERSON GRIFFEN, DEFENSIVE END
Minnesota’s four-time Pro Bowl pick has 74 1/2 career sacks, incorporating 26 1/2 the past three seasons, but he exercised his option to void the survive three years on his contract. Griffen is reportedly selves patient and waiting until he can take in-person visits. He’s 32, but showed last season he has plenty left.
LOGAN RYAN, CORNERBACK

DARQUEZE DENNARD, CORNERBACK
It appeared Dennard had a new home early in free organization when he signed with Jacksonville, but the three-year, $13.5 million deal fell through. The extinct Bengals slot cornerback, a 2014 first-round pick, never really lived up to his lofty prepare status in Cincinnati. He was limited to nine games last season while having offseason knee surgery.
KELVIN BEACHUM, LEFT TACKLE
Arguably the Jets’ most consistently solid offensive lineman during his three seasons in New York, Beachum, who turns 31 next month, has seen a negated overhaul on the O-line by GM Joe Douglas. Beachum’s fate with the Jets was pervaded after they drafted Louisville left tackle Mekhi Becton with the No. 11 overall pick. He’s aloof a more-than-serviceable starter.
DEVONTA FREEMAN, RUNNING BACK
Freeman, one of the NFL’s most productive backs during the 2015 and ‘16 seasons, rushed for 11 touchdowns and over 1,000 yards each year. He hasn’t been quite the same player staunch, with various injuries limiting him to two games in 2018 and only 656 yards rushing and two TDs in 14 games last year. Atlanta released him in March, and there are reports he mighty be willing to sit out this season or even retire if no team meets his hefty requisition request.
